The exhibition designed for high school students delved into the social nature of the educational centers designed and built by Juan O’Gorman in the 1930’s, under the direction of Narciso Bassolss, Secretary of Education and President Plutarco Elías Calles.
Juan O’Gorman. Rebellious Architecture focused on how functionalist architecture devised by O’Gorman improved the quality of life for the vast majority of Mexico City’s working classes. O’Gorman’s schools also provided public spaces for the mural paintings of young artists, which fomented the class consciousness of the emerging working class of the Mexican capital. Includes references to intellectuals and ideologues belonging to the same generation of Juan O’Gorman in order to draw a cultural horizon of their creativity, commitment, ethics and courage.
This is a didactic exhibition that seeks to inspire in young people creativity, and a critical approach to the present through figures such as Juan O’Gorman and his contemporaries.
This exhibition is available for public and private institutions, and other civic organizations interested in disseminating its contents.
